How to Overcome Being Broken

There is no magic recipe to live happily ever after. Realistically, it requires determination to change your focus from being stuck into a fight mode. Perseverance to keep fighting and working on it every single day without giving up. Most importantly, it requires some sort of help and support. Why is that? Because an input coming from another source provides a different way to see things. This is a must for us to be able to do things differently, move on and achieve success. Here is a quick guide on how to overcome being broken:

Analyze Pain vs Happiness

Tony Robbins, in his book “Awaken the Giant Within”, talks about it in more detail.

Basically, you have to analyze if your current situation creates more pain vs reward or vice versa. If you are experiencing more reward, then whatever is bothering you may not be enough to make you change. On the other hand, if in the same situation, you experience more pain vs gain, then you’ll have enough motivation to seek a better state.

Thinking about your current situation: Is it too painful? Or sometimes? Some days? Can you live like this forever? If there is enough pain, you’ll be determined to end it and look for a change.

Asking for Help/Support

There are different ways, even some without involving humans. Here are two examples:

Bibliotherapy

Consists of healing by reading books. Consider borrowing or buying books on that specific area you are trying to overcome. Learn what has worked for other people and put that into practice.

It is important to mention that one book most likely won’t solve everything. Read one book, then another and another. Read 100 books! Give time to your soul and mind to rewire into a new self.

Psychological Therapy

Having that human interaction is key for some people. Books can’t see your emotions and can’t ask you the right questions when needed. A professional providing you tailored support will be the best money you will spend your whole life. Don’t be afraid of what people say or that it could become a crutch, it won’t. A good therapist will work with you to heal and give you the tools to be self-reliant.

Perseverance

Therapy will be a waste if you are not committed to a new self. Disciple and perseverance will take you very far. Use this core value to keep reading books or to keep working on what is important on your well-being.

Extra Tip: Exercise

This has nothing to do with your physical shape. In fact, exercising is a positive way to release anger and anxiety. Physical movement gives some people a meditative state where they don’t think about problems for a certain period of time.

After you finish exercising, your body creates and releases chemicals like endorphins to make you feel happy. Being happy when you are broken is an oasis in a desert. It is hope that reminds you that you are capable of overcoming your current state by doing something under your control.

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you are right”

Henry Ford
  • Losing weight is possible if you think you can.
  • Being wealthy is possible if you think you can.
  • Retiring in 10 years is possible if you think you can.
  • You can overcome being broken if you think you can.

Don’t take this as the magic solution on how to overcome being broken because this is just the start. Finally, you must remember: Determination, get support and persevere!
